Nic Barrow is the owner of the Snooker Gym, which is a professional snooker coaching service that offers face to face lessons as well as a dedicated member's area. Nic made his first 100 break in 1986 (aged just 16) and went on to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in 1989. He made his first 147 in 1991, and turned a pro in 1992. After ending his career, he has since coached a number of high profile players including Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2009 and Ding Junhui in 2013. He also has over 20,000 subscribers on YouTube.

The Brief

Nic came to us with a lot of experience in online marketing. He has previously made his own website and wanted to revamp it and give it a fresh look. He also wanted to increase his online exposure and create a membership based website in addition to the face to face coaching services that he offered. He wanted to continue to dominate his sector and understood that other snooker coaches were pushing hard, and he needed to adapt and continue to keep pushing his website and brand.

Our Approach

Nic was an easy individual to work with as he understood the importance of SEO and having a good user experience with his website. He has some clear ideas on what he wanted, so it meant we had full understanding about what he wanted. Our task was to change his website to incorporate membership options and to modernise the overall look and feel of the website. Nic ranked already for quite a few keywords, so we had to be careful with all changes, ensuring that 301 permanent redirects where placed where redirecting any old pages to new pages, and redirecting any pages not needed to the HTML sitemap to avoid any possible dead pages.

The Result

Since the website was launched, Nic has seen a large uptake in the number of paying subscribers who pay for his membership packages. This has created a funnel of income that he never had before. The new updated website also further improved all of his rankings and he did not experience any drop in his rankings. Organic traffic has improved across the whole site and he now ranks for a lot more organic keyphrases than he did before working together with us.
