How Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) is Impacting SEO
Google's AI search results, Search Generative Experience (SGE) generates an answer to a query, summarising information from a number of selected web pages to provide an accurate and relevant result.
The selected pages are shown in a SGE panel, shown as sources for the AI summary. When you appear in SGE results, you increase your visibility and website traffic potential.
SGE is expected to significantly impact SEO moving forward. Even though Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is still in development, roll-out has begun.
Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) uses AI in search results. It is an experiment on providing users with relevant and accurate results to their queries. When typing in a query, users receive a cohesive text that is AI-generated, using information that has been gathered from numerous websites. The text does not provide links.
What it does is show the source page to the side of the text with links and thumbnails in a carousel. The first three can be seen on desktops, yet there are more pages, if you click the arrow.
Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is still new and exciting, though we have no ideal of what it will look like or how it will work when the final roll-outs take place. While still new, the AI continues to learn, helping it determine what searches people use AI for.
Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) summarises information and presents it with source pages in a carousel, as mentioned before. Being part of this, you need to produce powerful pages. In the past being on the first page of search engine results pages (SERPs) was the goal, but now with the introduction of SGE, it's come down to being part of the SGE carousel, ideally in the top three ranked pages.
While SGE is still new, it's not easy to identify exactly how your content should be optimised for SGE, but one thing that we do know is that you will need to focus your efforts on creating content that aligns with search intent, while showcasing your authority in your niche.
Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) provides AI Overviews on most searches, yet there are many where it does not appear. This does make perfect sense, as a quick questions that can be answered in one sentence, doesn't need an overview taken from various sources. A simple question, such as “When is the next full moon,” doesn't require a major oversight of the subject.
Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is still new, yet it's already impacting SEO efforts. Taking information from various pages and combining it into one AI Overview, improves user experience, yet can reduce traffic to web pages. Do you need help optimising your site for SGE?
