The Genie Crawl team were recently approached by a restaurant, located on the water's edge of Canary Wharf. This beautiful restaurant boasts water views, great food, and a relaxing ambience for business meetings, or a stop for a quick bite when exploring the area. The restaurant sector in the area is highly competitive with a large volume of restaurants all trying to grab their audience’s attention. The location, the experience, and their food made us quickly realise that this restaurant had great potential. Taking into account that more than 80% of people use their mobile devices when searching for a local restaurant, we chose to focus on mobile SEO techniques to boost visibility and revenue.
When we were approached by the partners in the restaurant, they had a roaring breakfast and lunch trade, but were struggling to gain momentum for evening service. They wanted to increase the number of tables booked in the evenings, where they boasted the most stunning sunset views across Canary Wharf. During the initial consultation, they asked that we boost their visibility, along with driving more patrons to their restaurant, focusing on evening service. They needed this at a competitive price without a long-term package.
We knew when we took on this project; we had our work cut out for us. We needed to apply mobile SEO techniques to ensure that their potential customers could find them on their mobile device. The first step was creating a responsive web design that ensures the restaurants website adapts to various screen sizes. We also implemented a user-friendly navigation menu, enabling users to find the information they needed with ease on a small touch screen. We removed any pop-ups that hindered user experience, while improving page loading times, optimising images, and ensuring all content could be read with ease on a small screen. This included adding a “Book a Table Now” button, for seamless booking, along with a direct call button. In addition to this, we used schema mark-up, ensuring search engines could understand the content and improve visibility, along with improving the website structure, to ensure seamless navigation across any device.
It's only been six months since we completed this project, but with great success. The restaurant has experienced on-going growth across all services, including their evening meals. With more than 50% of their patrons coming from a mobile search, it is clear that our mobile SEO techniques have proven highly effective, boosting awareness and return on investment.
