Genie Crawl was approached by a personal blogger who was passionate about the environment and had turned her passion of upcycling into an informative blog to help others with the same passion. While her blog was in a niche market, she wanted to monetise the blog, but was not receiving enough organic traffic and engagement. Wordpress is a popular personal blog site, offering free themes and hosting.
The client approached us regarding her upcycling blog, wanting to improve organic traffic, in the hope she could monetise the blog, turning her hobby into a lucrative career. Her requirements were very simple, she wanted a 100% increase in organic traffic to her blog as soon as possible. During the consultation, we discussed time frames and what could be done to boost her online visibility, driving qualified organic traffic to her website. Being a personal blogger, she didn't have a large budget, which we had to work around.
We started with a thorough analysis of the personal blog before putting an effective Wordpress SEO strategy in place. We installed the Yoast SEO plugin that offered a wealth of optimisation functionality. The next step was to ensure the client was using the latest version of Wordpress and we then conducted comprehensive keyword research, identifying top terms and phrases used by the clients audience, helping us identify their intent.
From here, the team got to work creating topical hierarchy on the Wordpress blog, placing blogs into categories to improve navigation. This also involved a comprehensive internal structuring campaign, linking relevant pages to others, creating topical hierarchy that search engines understand.
We then went on to identify any broken links, duplicate content, and permalink structure, making adjustments as needed. We created a Robots.txt file and XML sitemap for the blog, ensuring that they were submitted to improve indexing and ranking. We also implemented a Content Delivery Network to improve page speed, while optimising all images.
It has been a few months since we started this personal blog content, that has involved regular monitoring and updating to ensure that online visibility and website traffic is improved. This case study has proven the effectiveness of Wordpress SEO, as our client is happy to report that her organic traffic has increased by a staggering 100%.
